call a dealer and ask if there is a way... there might be some key sequance you can hit or something like that. I know with my eclipse there is a key i can enter by turning hte ignition to enter numbers. ...

I work at a dealership..Do not try to "hot wire" anything and don't use the "door" key to drive with...Use the "door" key in the doors only!!! You will disable the ignition..Most newer model cars have keys equipped with computer chips inside of them with codes nowadays..In a nutshell, when you insert the "chip key" (or dealerships call them PATS keys sometimes) into the ignition it shoots the code to the computer..The computer recoginizes that code within milliseconds and enables the vehicle to fire up..I guess it's kind of an anti-theft device....You HAVE to get a "chip" key made at the Mitsu dealership...They should be able to tell which one it is by pulling the VIN # from the car and looking it up in their computer..It helps if you have the key tag with the key code on it that originally came with the keys when the vehicle was originally purchased..Once their parts department cuts the key for you, you'll have to have their service department hook it up their scanner and computer and program the new key to the vehicle for you...it's not going to be cheap, should run you between $100 to $150 for one key but you have to have it so you just gotta bend over and take it...After that, don't lose your keys again and treat them like gold man!
