Throttle Body air leak how to fix

Its a common area to get a boost leak at the throttle body shaft seals. they are rubber but over time they get hard and feel like plastic causing an air leak. alot of PSI test show that this point wont even hold around 8PSI of boost before it leaks.

***Write up to come as we fix them in my EVO, here are some pics of where these are located after dissasembling a 1G throttle Body***

Throttle body off of the car. Notice the TPS on the right side of it. This is the first part that must be removed

With the TPS removed. The TPS was removed by just 2-8mm hex heads. The 10mm hex head nut must next be removed along with the center peice used for the TPS.

Next the butterfly must be removed. This is done with just a philips screw driver.

The top bolt on the throttle cable side then has to be removed. This was a 12mm hex head. Also youll notice in this picture near the top of the spring there is a green and brown tab. These must be pried off the metal tab so the spring comes loose. Also on the bottom of the spring (not seen in the picture) there are tabs that must be pulled loose.

Once this is complete the entire throttle cable spring assembly can be pulled out of the throttle body. Now if you look in each side of the hole, the most outer ring on each side is the shaft seal. In the picture its being lite up and is the inner circle.

Here is another picture of it. This is removed by taking a philips or flathead screw driver and prying from the outside of the TB. Just find the inner edge and pry it out. It can be alittle bit of a pain.

Here is the culprit. The shaft seal.

Now just put the new shaft seals in and put it all back together. When you go to put the new seals in, i found using an 11mm socket and just tapping it down works. Make sure you wind back up the spring with the assembly on before putting the bolts on it.

Good write up Emonz!
For the Eclipse guys looking in, this is a major leak area too. Since the Eclipse/Talon are old by todays standards, if those gaskets/seals haven't been replaced, they will cause boost leak issues. BTW, a throttle body is a throttle body, they are on different cars but the TB that Emonz has done is very similar to our TBs if not exact[;)]

The TB in these pics is from a 1G I have yet to take off the EVOs but It will be off this week and this write up will be even more in depth

I just want to note also that as far as i know the dealerships do not sell these seals. The only place that we have found them is here.
