Crower or HKS?

98_GstEclipse -> Crower or HKS? (12/17/2006 9:01:23 PM)

Within the next week or 2 im gonna be purchasing a set of cam. I had my mind set on HKS 264/272 combo until I was speaking to the guy that is gonna be doing the work on my car and he said I should do the Crower combo instead. He said that there as good as HKS if not even better. I really havent heard anything about Crower so Im really not sure which ones to get. Which ones will I be more satisfied with. Also would a 272/272 combo be better. Im not to worried about the roughness in my idle

I think either are fine. I believe crower is more known for their pistons. I havnt really heard much about the cams. But i dont see what the problem would be with using HKS

ive heard good things about crower...hell the new HKS evo 8 uses crower parts....

man dont waste your money on hks, get comp cams. Thats what i did for my 6 bolt build. the 10100's are the same as hsk 264's and the 10200's are the same as hks 272's. Im not saying hks is bad, im just saying comp cams are 1/2 the cost

echostats -> RE: Crower or HKS? (12/18/2006 9:18:05 PM)

Crower is the **** but HKS is so tempting. I admit, I am swayed by the name brands. MAN! I'm like an Abercrombie kid for cars!

Im still tryin to decide. Im not sure what to get. But the people who's gonna do work on my car said they have an account with crower or some vendor and they can get me the cam combo plus valves springs and lifters

silvercoupe97 -> RE: Crower or HKS? (12/19/2006 10:49:01 PM)

If the shop can get you a deal for the cams, springs, and valves do it.  There's nothing wrong with the Crower's set.  It's never bad to replace the valves and springs[:D]
IMO, it's a either saying that you have Crower cams or or HKS cams...see what I'm saying?  It's like what Echo said about the Abercrombie comment (thought that was funny btw, lol).  You either have a brand name that everyone knows or a brand name that only a few know in our community.

Oh yeah, I've read recommendations of 264/272 combos over the 272/272 combo for street.
The 272's are lumpy and you lose the low end and if you're worried about emissions then don't get the 272 setup, while the 264's will keep the power band and hold till redline and are good with emissions.

*edited because I was backwards, lol.

Yea Im not worried about emissions. But will my redline increase once thos cams are installed or will it stay at 7grand

93eclipsegsx -> RE: Crower or HKS? (12/24/2006 2:23:55 PM)

you will stay at 7200 or 7300. the stock limiter. you need to go to a shop and have the car tuned and they can raise the limiter. also if you havent got any cams, you can also try brian crower cams, its a different site than crower themselves but i think they might be cheaper. and silver sinve i have the 272/272 combo what would help me pass emissions b/c i want to drive my car on the streets. my car has passed emissions without the cat when it ran without to many mods.

I'll look bro.  I've gotten the impression that the 272/272 combo just wasn't too good of a choice in emission tested states.
