That is the intake plenim and you need to pull that off to get to the rear plugs.

You have to remove the "Plenum" or "intake manifold" (whatever you want to call it, it's up to you, but it's not a header, that is on the exhaust side) and everything and anything that will keep it from coming out, plain and simple. After you remove it, the plugs will be very accessible. One word of caution, put rags in the holes or you may chance dropping something down them that shouldn't be there. It's been too long since I removed my plenum, but it's very easy. It's a matter of you getting to it and stop being afraid of breaking something, lol. The plenum gasket is also metal, so it's reusable. One more note, buy a Haynes/Chiltons manual before doing any work on your car, it will save you a lot of headaches.

No worries MitsE03. One more thing, don't remove the throttle body, it has a paper gasket and you will have to replace the gasket if you do, once you loosen the throttle cable adjuster, you should be able to remove the cable from the throttle body pulley...scary how quick this info comes back, lol. Plus I have pics of my old 6g73 (very similar to your 6g72, in just about every physical way). That's about it really, the rest can come off without issues....just remember where they went...and don't crank down on the plenum bolts or it will crack! I believe the torque setting for them was something like 10ft lbs (don't quote me on that, it's been too long, look in the book first) and that's not very tight at all. It is tight enough to hold the plenum down and not back out though. While you're there, look for leaks around the rear valve cover, they have this odd tendancy to leak when you least expect it too. Again, it's a very simple task, it just looks scary. Go for it and you'll kick yourself in the butt for worrying about it at all afterwards, lol. Have fun bud.
