I have the '07 Outlander and I use the Nav system quite extensively, especially to find Nearby POI such as restaurants... the problem is that the data is about two years old... has anyone heard of any way to update the data in the Nav unit? Does Mitsubishi plan on any updates?

Thanks,
Cliff.

hmmm, thats a toughie...
try calling your dealer.
They may be able to get in touch with mitsu usa and send you a new disk
Oddly enough, for some reason, the maps are not updated like they are supposed to be.
My family and I just moved into one of the houses I built, in a new subdivision, and no-one knows where the street is at, course it prolly doesnt help
that there still isnt a street sign up...

spoke with dealer... no luck... the service manager said he wasn't trained on the vehicle yet but I could come in and they would "reset" the navigation system... I told him it was working fine but the data was old... he didn't understand me (South Florida language barrier, my Spanish isn't so hot).

I have read reviews that stated the NAV is upgradeable by the dealer.  However, an update probably isn't available quite yet.  Is there any way to find out where they get their data, and when it will update?

it will be upgradable through the dealer, but as the system is 2 months old there are no updates available for it.

it will probably be this time next year before they're available.

GPS data is by Navteq, but browsing through the Navteq site, I can't find the 07 Outlander among their list of OEM vehicles. Maybe to be updated later. But with regards to maps, Navteq has a Map Reporter tool (or something like that), where you can actually send a request to Navteq to update a certain portion of the map. Like in my area, some of the new homes and newly created streets are not yet on the map, so I plan to send a request to Navteq to have this part of the map updated. And they're suppose to include the newly updated map as part of an annual update CD, which for some makes like GM, are being sold for $100+

After your initial report, Navteq is supposed to get back to you about the status of your map update report. Haven't been through this process yet, but I presume once they've updated their online map with your requested area, then it'll probably show up in their next map update, which is an annual thing if I remember it right. Then ask Mitsu or your dealer about new map updates, probably get the date of the update, and contact Navteq if that specific update, dated xx-xx-200x, has the latest maps, and you can even go further and ask if that includes the portion of the map you reported a few months back.

So it's not an easy and quick thing, but at least there is a way to do it (from how I see it should go). I'm an 07 Outlander owner too and when our new house gets done in May, it won't be in the map for sure, so I'm eagerly awaiting new updates too.
