I have a 95 mirage that won't start.  I went to warm up the car one morning and when I came back outside it was no longer running. When I tried to start it, it ran for maybe five seconds then died.  Then it wouldn't start at all. When I turn the key the engine cranks but it just will not start.  I have spark.  I have fuel.  My timing is OK.  I did once experience a strong fuel smell, so I replaced the fuel pressure regulator.  Still nothing.  I am completely baffled. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?  This is my only mode of transportation and I really need to get it running.  Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

What? How the hell did you come to that conclusion?

Are you POSITIVE you have spark?

The smell of gas tells me that no fuel is being ignited.

my friend checked for spark twice and I had it both times.  He pulled out the number one plug and it had a lot of gas on it.  So he thought the fuel pressure regulator wasn't working and too much fuel was being dumped.  But that's been replaced and it's still not starting, but there's not an overwhelming fuel smell anymore

i came to that conclusion first because he said it started and then shut off. Too me the first thing that came to mind was alternator

Do you have any check engine lights, or a way to get codes. Maybe its the crank angle sensor
