My Gf drives a 2000 ecplipse gt 5speed.  I do not know a whole hell of a lot about her car...  anyways she brought it in today to have new engine mounts installed. While it was there the mechanic called her and told her that both of her rear sway bars are broken.  We havent picked the car up yet, but I think it is pretty unreal that both sway bars would break.  I will get under there and look right infront of the mechanic.... anways, does this sound possible??? Keep in mind her car is un-modded and completely stock in every way.

I will post more info once I talk to the mechanic.

Thanks

If he is talking about the sway bar connectors it is deffinitly possible. My room mate did it from running over a curb on one side. What did she do to get new engine mounts because if she broke engine mounts she can deffinitly break some sway bars lol.

I talked to the mechanic, he is referring to the connectors, I guess one side is loose and the other one is completely broken free.

She has 110k on it, she has had it since like 40K, her clutch started slippin about 5K ago, so she had a new one put in, and while they were in there they told her about the engine mounts.

She never hit anything (that I know of), the car just slowly started developing this chattering noise while accelerating, worse when its cold. I did some searching on this site and found a few cases that seemed to agree with the motor mount diagnosis.

So it was $523 Parts and Labor for the 2 mounts.

Is the sway bar an easy job? I would just get a cheap aftermarket one.

Yup the sway bar links are an easy job.  It's not unheard of the have broken links.  If one was loose, I can imagine that it caused the other side to break.

Its basically just a bolt with some rubber fittings, its easy to put on. My room mate bought hers for about twenty bucks and it took us about an half an hour to put on just because one side was being stuborned so we had to cut the old bolt off. I wouldn't pay 500 bucks to get it done, thats like asking you to pay that much just to get a tire off, all it is is just a bold that you unscrew, and then just slide the new one in with the rubber spacers. Easy as that.

Cool, the guy quoted her $230 parts and labor, so it isnt that unreasonable, but I will just do it myself and save the loot.

Thanks all.

Holy **** $230?!!. Thats a rip off to do it. Its such an easy job and i cant see the parts being very expensive. I think i only paid like $20 for one kit
