Take the speakers back mostlikley if you had the infinity system stock than the rear and the front are 6". If you cant take them back then sell them. it is way to hard to get the 6X9 into that hole not worth the time just get a 3way 6" mtx knewood and infinty all make awsome 3way 6".

Yeah, my friend has an 99 Eclipse RS, and they are not 6X9". I believe only the GS's and above had 6x9". To make sure though, I'd just go to your dealer or Best Buy or something and have them look up what size you need. That's what I did for my front speakers.

well i did went to best buy and asked about the size. the guy look it up on its computer at it clearly stated that the rear speakers should be 6X9 which is not true. almost all website i checked lister the rear speakers as 6X9". even the chilton repair manual draw the rear speaker as 6X9 (i'm just guessing). well, i might as well make a custom boxes for the speakers i have bought.

That's funny that Best Buy told you 6x9" speakers for your car. I think it would be better to sell your 6x9" speakers on ebay or return them if possible and get the correct size. Were your previous speakers blown, or do you just want to upgrade your stereo system? I believe get435 is right with the speaker size. If Best Buy didn't know, the dealer will for sure because you can order them for your car. Just ask next time your down there, and find out. You can find some real nice infinity speakers on ebay for real cheap and I'm talking about the Referrence serries.

I had the same problem with my eclipse yesterday. First I got 6x9 Rockfords that didn't fit which I then had to exchange for 6.5'' Alpine SPS-17C2s. Whilst eyeballing the factory speaker mounts I got to thinking that it should all "too" hard to modify the mounts to allow for 6x9s. Has anyone tried this at home?

I just replaced my stock infinity speakers with Infinity Reference 913i 3way 6x9s - they did not fit completely square but I got them in with a little adjustment to the stock speaker grill - had to clip part of the inside plastic is all. They are not 100% flush to the mount plate but very close.

Just make sure you put some material behind it if it's not flush. Something like dynomat don't want the speaker rattling against the mounts and the rest of the car. I would cut and make them fit myself but then again I do stereo installations so I can do that LOL...

I did what you said you would do sang,I took the whole mounting bracket out and used a Dremal to cut alot of the plastic off,all the way to the lip.I think I had to drill new screw holes but I got them in and they fit pretty good.I used Polks 6x9's and the car is a 95 rs.

So I was just wondering after reading the thread from top to bottom if anyone knows what the size of the speaker is in a 97' GSX with the infinity stock system?
