ok I was reading on evom someone having an issue with when they are on the highway and go wot that it sounds like there is a fluttering sound....... I was curious about this because I noticed the same thing on my car and never thought anything of it. Its weird instead of being a smooth spool sound it sounds like its fluttering as it spools???????? Any of you guys have similar problems???? The only mods are just the adaptor for the maf so you can put a injen filter on the end and the hks ssq recirculated. I never noticed it untill i acually boosted with the windows down, with the windows up you dont notice the flutter. Maybe its nothing and just the sound of the wind but I wanna make sure its nothing. Oh here in Chicago its been like below zero to so maybe the weather has something to do with it.

you dont have a boost gauge right?

I know my car sounded weird almost like it was supercharged when I hit full boost it was like a whistle I noticed it after I did the IC pipe upgrades.  I think it was caused by the Throttle body shaft seal leaking boost.  I found out it is extremely common for the Evos to get that leak there after about 15k miles or so cause the rubber seals get hard and feel like brittle plastic so for the $20 I just put new ones in and the sound seemed to be gone.

Maybe you got leaky shaft seals like most Evos do?

yeah I dont have a boost gauge yet but im soon gonna get one, as for the sound, there is no whine or any sound like that, its just a flutter as soon as the turbo starts spooling.... Do you think a tb seal would go bad at only 3000miles on it??? Would it cause a flutter like that???? I havent driven the car in a while because of the crappy weather so I havent been able to check it again but a couple weeks back i did tighten the hoses and everything that connects to the bov, so maybe I fixed the problem not sure....... Guess I'll have to check in the next couple days and try to get the car back on the highway to check.

Not sure what you mean by flutter either.  is it and obvious sound like you could make a video of it?

you really cant hear it in the car to well and the only reason i noticed it was when I was driving i had my windows down for a bit, then I went wot for a few seconds and i heard it. It would be way to hard to get sound clips. Do you think its possible that it could be coming from the adaptor I got from lacershop????
http://www.lancershop.com/customer/product.php?productid=876&cat=2&page=1 it came with a gasket with it, when I installed it I used the exsisting rounded gasket that was already on the maf tube and I used the suppplied gasket. If you look at my car you will see that the flat gasket doesnt fit flat. The kit didnt even come with teh bolts or anything, I had to find my own bolts to use, plus teh adaptor didnt line up with the holes that well. Im thinking maybe im sucking in air, i dont know thpugh because I have it really tight so I cant see it not being sealed. As for the sound emonz, it doesnt make absolutly no sound untill I boost and its just a long and fast flutter as long as im boosting almost like soemthing falpping really fast. But I havent driven my car since I tightend everything up either, so i might have already fixed it, i'd have to drive my car to find out, unfortunately the snow is being a PITA here and cant get my car out of thr garage, to deep and hard, i dont wanna screw up my bumper and chew it up. its suppose to get ine the 50's by wednsday so i might be able to get it out. I'll see if i can get pictures after work tomorrow to show you what im talking about.

hey Emonz I have been reading alot of stuff from evom and all the guys say that the hks ssq is a garbage bov, why???? They keep saying that stock is better, if stock leaks why is it better, then they go on and say to get forge...... I like asking you about tihs stuff because you'll give me a knowledgeable answer and I wont ask those guys because everyone there tells everyone to use the search key..

Well i forget, do you have a evo9 because those have good stock BOV's but the 8's have the crappy plastic bov which is junk. I dont know why they are saying the HKS is crap because its really one of the best you can get along with the tial, but those cant recirc.

they dont like the SSQ.   They all live buy 3 BOV.  the JDM MR DV, forge, and Tail  they think anything else is garbage.  Trust me why I tell you the HKS is as goos as the Tail they are the to best out there.  and HKS is by FAR better than stock.  the main reason people dont like them is they get alittle compressor surge but that is why they are adjustable like all aftermarket BOVs are

I noticed that most of those guys there are pretty bias on just about everything. Is the hks i got adjustable?? I didnt see no adjuster on mine, the older hks ssq ones i seen had a screw thing on the top, mine didnt have that. Thanks guys and for the sound and pics, the snow is melting pretty good here so tomorrow zi should be able to get the car out and see if i can hear the sound. The flutter im hearing is different from the bov flutter i get from letting off the throttle when giving it a little gas. Im thinking it might be from the adaptor i mentioned earlier and the gasket that was suppied, i think i might not have it flush and its sucking in air and flapping that stupid gasket, like I said i'll check tomorrow. Thanks again guys.

I think the HKS IS ADJUSTABLE INTERNALLY WHEN YOU TAKE IT APART
