That still doesn't make any sense though. They were 5.0 (4.9 really) but only made 225hp. Now they are the 4.6 OHC that make 260hp. How can they have gotten slower. Do the new ones weigh that much more..?? I know the SVT is a way different story, but I still thought the regular GT's were in the low 14's.

Not arguing, just perplexed.

they have 260hp to the crack, you lose about 25% threw the drivetrain. i raced a gt at the track here and he ran a 15.5 still had the dealer plate on it.i have also watched a number of gt race on a quater mile track and they all ran mid 15s. there were some that had some work done to them running in the 14s. but stock 15s. as for the older ones not sure i know that i raced one when i was pretty stock and running 14.4 and he got me. not sure if he was stock or not. alot of people think there fast or in the 13s or 12s until they get on a track and run 15s or 16s. bench seat racers

That's true, alot of people also overestimate their driving skills too.

Pretty good time. I gave up racing my own cars years ago. To hard on the pocketbook. So be it I guess.

I have piloted a friends car (64 Chevy II w/ BBC) to a 10.8 at 140+. That was a ride

He ran an 9.7x at 150+ using the juice. It was a "business use only" car. It was street legal, but just barely. I helped shoehorn in the BB in that car. Took us about 8 hours to get it all hooked up and running. All I wanted was a ride, but he offered me the chance to track it, how could I say no.

He has a 67 chevelle now with a 396 with a roots type 14-71 blower. Dynoed at 780 hp on 89 octane. He hasn't tracked it yet, but I bet it'll haul ass.
