Well, I finally broke off a front wheel stud of my 2001 4WD 3.5L Montero Sport. I'm driving around on 5 of the 6. The vehicle has a 169,000 miles and runs like a top. It appears there is no "easy" way, like just pressing it out and pressing a new in. Anyway, I don't have a repair manual, so I'm looking for procedures to R&R a drivers side front wheel stud, and opinions on whether it can be done by a shade tree mechanic. THX ahead of time.

Should be similar if not the same but on my 90 Montero IIRC you remove the wheel/tire, brake calipers, auto locking hubs, brake rotor, then extract the broken lugs (press them out).
