02 MONTERO SPORT FRONT BEARING?

Seems the right front wheel bearing is shot. The wheel is getting loose and I have pulled the grease cap and can tell that the hub is getting pretty loose on the spindle. Question is, Has anyone replaced these yet and do they make the entire hub/wheel bearing or just the bearings? i've never seen a set up like this, but if I don't fix this soon it's looks like trouble. The tire is already in bad shape and the truck is shaking going down the road.

Anyone have experience with these yet?

Check on online parts catalogs - like rockauto.com - to see a picture of the bearings etc. They usually have product images so that you can answer your question how the parts are configured. Good luck and dont drive until this is fixed!

Thanks, but there are 2 screw that seem to hold the Bearing in place, and I haven't seen anything that even remotely looks like this, not to mention those screw will not come out. I was hoping someone had some experience with them. I have 25 years auto repair experience under my belt, but i haven't seen anything like these.

I found a place that will sell me the hub and bearing assembly pulled from a scrap Monty. I guess that will simplify things.

if its 4WD i did it on mine. not to difficult. take out the two screws, then the plate they screw into that looks like a big washer actually unscrews then the rest of the way is like any other spindle just start pulling stuff. If you got a spanner tool it makes it easier to unscrew that plate

the bearings naturally loosen a bit with time.
you could 1)leave it, because they ALL do that, or 2)just repack or tighten the bearing.

thats it. I have yet to actually replace a bearing set on the front of a sport, as the bearing are actually huge.

not to be insulting, but if you havent seen something like this in 25 years of working on cars, you havent worked on that many cars.
there is nothing on this setup that all older 4WD setups didnt have. 2 bearings, a hub/disc assembly, a retaining nut and a locking plate. Most other 4WD have a second locking nut in stead of a locking plate, but thats it.

No insult taken, but this is not a 4WD model. And yes I have done a wide variety of work on many vehicles for at least 25 years. What I am saying specifically is that I have never seen a set up with a grease cap that actually bolts to the hub such as this one, nor have I seen screws that hold a bearing in place. I appreciate your advice, though and will attempt to adjust or tighten the bearing and see if that helps, but the hub appears to be pretty loose on the assembly.

i think its to keap things a little more universal. on my 4x4 MS the CV axles turn the whole assembly from that bolt on cap thats why there's so many bolts for it just being a grease cap. i was actually taking off the rotors but when i did mine i hadn't done one of those setups before but it was pretty easy to figure it out as i went
