does anyone know if a factory 1993 auto tranny on my 3000gt can handle the extra torque from a turbo? i need to make my car run a bit faster and a vr4 conversion is just to expensive.

yea the trany will handle the power but you will need to look into it more.a tt bottom end gives you all the oil feeds ect. but there are more ways round it .look at 3si they have members that have done many, but not cheap 2k upwards

i'm not really looking towards a twin turbo set up. more along the lines of a single turbo with everything to go along with it. my friend had told me that the automatic tranny wouldn't be able to handle the extra torque that the turbo would put out. he told me i would have to have the 5-speed so that i could change the gearing. but to me that really doesnt make much sense. i mean, the eclipse gsx came with an auto tranny on some and it had a good size turbo in it. but i need to find a way to make my car move alittle bit more cuz rite now i'm not happy.

i was going to get mine supercharged with a ripp mods kit,and was told by one guy who has already done it thet the tranny will hold up no probs. you do need to fit a good external oil cooler though,19 rows.
his father and brother done the conversion for him and were thinking of doing a single/twin turbo conversion to an auto .you need to upgrade the fuel pump to a tt one and change the injectors, fit a maftpro etc.
gonna cost me around 3-4k for a sc conv.so i might just get a tt gto imported from japan for around 5-6 k.
i dont fancy driving an auto with a turbo as you dont know when the box is going to kick down and release the power, especially going through a bend.

my friend has just told me that turboing the car is a bad idea and thinks that it would blow up in the next 10,000 miles. it's a 1993 with only 78,000 miles currently and in great shape. he wanted me to ask if non vr4 engines came with forged pistons. and he wants to know if the engine already has to much compression to handle a turbo.
