I have a 3G eclipse V6.  When I start it it makes like a metal on metal grinding noise for a couple seconds and then stops.  Then when I shut it off it does the same thing, kind of like it's winding down.  I put on a cold air intake a few months ago but it wasn't doing this quite as bad until recently.  Any suggestions would be great!!

could be a pulley. I have that type of sound on my car too but mine does it constantly and changes with the rpms. Yours might just not be bad enough yet. How long does it do the noise for

It only does it for about a minute after I start it and then again right after I shut it off

to isolate the problem... where is the noise coming from passenger side or driver side?

if you want open the hood... tell your friend to start the car and find the source of the problem. quickly

I think I found it. It sounds like it's the power steering pump. While it's making the noise I would turn the wheel and it would get worse.

hey i have a similar problem nd thought that i'd post it in this thread.  my 96 eclipse gsx recently started making this noise that sounds like something is being drag.  i thought that i was draggin my front bumper at the moment it happen but it turns out that my bumper is fine.  so i open the hood nd its coming from the right (looking at it from the front) side of the engine.  i was wondering if anyone would know what this is.  the cars been drivin to sacramento and back to stockton since the noise started.  i'd appreciate it if anyone can give a response.  thnx.
