Hi! I just got my brand new 2007 Eclipse GS and I am pretty much a noob of cars.
Can anyone answer me these questions?
1) The manual says the miles of first oil change is 6000KM, is it too late? When do people usually get the first oil change?
2) As a new car, what is the speed range or tachometer range should I keep to protect my engine? And within how many KMs?
Thanks!

Read this... form your own judgment. Everyone has had contrasting opinions about this... but this is science and logic.. and it makes perfect sence.. and its proven.. you cant argue with that.

This should be all the information you need http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

change your oil every 3000 miles (around 5000km). But for the first oil change i would just follow the manufacturer specs. I would not use the link that sebba put in there since this is a brand new car, not just a new engine. Just follow the specs. And for normal driving just shift around 3k-3500 rpms and youll be fine.

What? The same thing applies. Tell me why you say that

Thank both of you first. I think Sebba's link would work on some types of engines but I dont wanna risk my engine, maybe I am wrong but I guess TheEngineer is correct.

Where is the risk?

This process is proven to work on 4 stroke engines... all car engines are 4 stroke.

To me the difference is he is working with a brand new car under warrenty where if something did happen (Not saying it would) Then he would end up being screwed because he might not get that warrentied. Just go by the manufacturers specs and you cant go wrong since they told you too, so youll be covered. Also most cars that come from the dealer are not right at 0 miles either, so that hard break in period is usually over.
