So the tech stated that the actual pedal to be making the noise? Do you hear the noise the entire time, while braking, until you stop? Or do you hear the squeak while parked and pressing the brake pedal again and again? If you are just starting to hear the brake squeak, that is possibly the pad indicator, trying to tell you to get ready to change them out. I don't know why the rears would squeak before the front ones though. The front do the majority of the braking. If the squeak gets worse, it's most definitely the indicator. If it just goes away, you most definitely need the pads changed really soon. I would take it to another shop and have them check the front too. Unless, it really is the pedal creaking on it's pivots. If that's the case, do as Sebba suggested and lube them. It could also be the hand brake, if you use that everytime you stop. Rusty drums aren't bad, they only look bad. You should change them eventually, but not in the near future, unless you just feel like it.
