I have had my 2007 Outlander for 4 days and so far love it. Found some great info here regarding my klunk that I hear while turning the steering wheel and also the wind noise on the drivers side.  However, I have another weird issue.  I have the LS model and for some reason when listening to the radio, the sound fades in and out.  It sounds like when your listening to the radio out in the middle of no where and you lose the stereo signal and the sound fades out.  But I could be driving right by the radio station and this happens and the ST light is still on.  But if I am listening to a CD, everything sounds fine.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

And does anyone know if I can upgrade the audio system through Mitsubishi or was the  Rockford Fosgate only available if factory installed?

Thanks!

Does the volume drop and rise when you slow down and speed up?

automatic volume control...
To turn it off, push the knob on the far right of the headunit, hold it for about 7 seconds, and it will turn off...
i hate that thing

Actually, it's a KNOWN problem with the Outlanders.

See this post:
http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX?14@@.f1128e3/0

It has absolutely nothing to do with any setting.on the unit.  The antenna's on the Outlander suck.  Your radio is going between mono and stereo (what MMNA told me).  That's what you're hearing.

Mitsu is looking to replace the radio's.  I'm on a list and when they find the solution, they're going to call me...I'm not holding my breath.

one word...
BULLSHIT

there is nothing wrong with the damn anteana... nothing wrong with the radio...

from the way you just talked you made it seem like MMA had released something saying they were bad.
which just isnt the case.

No-one on here has ever had this problem, and it not be fixed by the automatic volume control setting. Regardless of whether or not the car is parked, running, or driving, the AVC is working. That damn thing is the biggest POS on the whole damn car (the only possible exception being the sun-visors)...
Every single person that reads there manual, and turns off the AVC remedies the problem.

Yes, the AVC goes into hyper-mode when in "radio" mode, the reason is, because the signal fades in and out, and it is trying its best to provide a constant sound level to you. It has nothing to do with the dumb idea that the radio is switching from stereo to mono... or FM doing it, or whatever... thats just B.S.

Its not a known problem with the outlander, its a known issue with people that dont turn off their AVC...
The anteana on the outie doesnt suck, its not great, but it pulls in signals as good as most OEM systems do.

Its a good thing your not holding your breath, cause at the most, what mitsu will do is start configuring them with the AVC in the off setting, and allowing those that want it on, to turn it on themselves....

cause there just aint nothing wrong...

I've seen this on my toyota with the retractable antenna down, a few FM stations with weak signals will cause the fading effect as the signal gets weaker (the ST indicator keeps flickering). On pulling the antenna out to its full extended length the sound is just fine.

Its suprising how horrendous the audio can get when the signal drops!

BULLSHIT

Blah, blah, blah...

cause there just aint nothing wrong...

Wow...

I'm not sure how much more wrong you can get.  In addition, it almost sounds like you're trying to start some kind of "internet chat war."

Now,

Let's clarify things for you:

MY RADIO IS DEFECTIVE.  EVERY SETTING (tried them all) DOES NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!

I have two other friends who have purchased Outlanders based on my recommendation, and BOTH OF THEIR TRUCKS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!!

MMNA corporate hq called me back after my initial complaint and told me that "there is a known problem with the radio."  They then made me waste my time and go to the dealer so they could "inspect" (aka do nothing but put pick marks in my dash) it.  After that, they (MMNA) asked me: "would you be interested in trialing a new version of the radio?"  I said, "Yes."  They said, they'll call me when they find a SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

FYI...
I hate going to the dealer.  I change my own oil and perform ALL routine maintenance on ALL my vehicles (for the last 10yrs).  Believe me, I'm the last one to complain about **** going wrong.  The fact of the matter is, there's a defect with MY RADIO, not everyone's.  Just like some people have the wheel bearing problem and some don't.  Just like some people have the noisy mirror and some don't.

Cheers,

Steve
