I have a 1.8 4wd turbo 94 gsr and havea unichip in my car now but am looking at ems (engine managment system) as an option but dont really know anything about it does anyone know anything about this.

Unichip is quite versatile, upgrading to EMS will require some hard work....Unless you are referring to the AEM EMS. There's EMS(it's own seperate company) and then AEM which has the their product plug-n-play EMS. I don't believe AEM has introduced the EMS for your car, you may want to email them to see if they can reprogram a U.S. Spec Eclipse 1.8l EMS to work on your 94 1.8l, but that may be too hard. Now, the company EMS sells standalone modules, i believe, which can take some time and work to install and pogram properly. I was under the impression that Unichip was very well one of the best piggyback systems out there, but if it's becoming a bottleneck on your car...i dunno. They do have newer versions though, so maybe that can help?!?

The car goes good and not haveing any problems with it but have heard a few good things about that ems system that you can fully control boost fuel and stuff whilst in the car. Will it make a difference I am 4wd engine dynoing my car in late january the place is so booked out I see how it goes then and look into what you said

Ahhh.... the GSR. Used to have one, loved it. Total sleeper if you don't do body mods. Can't count how many honduhs I smoked but I sure remember the look on their faces as they breathed my exhaust fumes.

Anyway, are you looking at a complete ECU replacement or just some way to have more control over the various parameters but still riding on top of the current ECU? Greddy, Apexi and HKS have pretty powerful add-ons that will work well with your car. I don't know of very many full ECU units that would. I remember one of my buddies having a Haltech unit which worked REALLY well for him. They've been around for a long time and are very reputable. Check them out at www.haltech.com

standalones are like learning a new language. Its best to learn about tuning on an safc, then try out a more complex piggyback like AEM EMS before trying to tune a car with a standalone. Theres plenty of forums dedicated to tuning and the AEM EMS has its own forum too. Id start there an start asking questions and reading before you decide. Just remember its 1000x's easier to blow up your motor than to tune correctly.
