Maintance ?

RMUDBUGS -> Maintance ? (4/18/2007 4:00:46 PM)

Has anyone changed there rear end oil?  The owners manuel says to do it every 15K but mine has 18K and I have not touched it.  The only maintance I have done is a tire rotation and oil change with Mobil 1 every 5K.

Did you take it to Mitsu to get it done? I know on GSXs they did the back end when they did the regular oil changes...

I have not had it done yet.  I work at a Mitsu dealer so the do all my maintance.

Yup, the rear diff needs it's oil changed along with the tranny (manual) and transfer case.

Mine is 2WD and the automatic tranny fluid is to be changed every 60K.  15K for the rear end seems a little soon to me.

Dodge has had terrible times in the past of keeping their axles together.
So much so that they created their own 140 weight synthetic axle lube.  use NOTHING ELSE in the rear end, and change it at the correct intervals.

RMUDBUGS -> RE: Maintance ? (4/19/2007 6:32:42 PM)

Mitsu list 2 rear end oils.  A 75W-90 and a 75W-140.  Both are synthetic.  So I called the local Dodge dealer and they told me that they use the 75W-90 and only reccomend the 75W-140 for extreme uses (i.e. towing, mud riding).

RMUDBUGS -> RE: Maintance ? (4/25/2007 12:29:57 PM)

I just checked the service manuel and it said to use 75w90 for the front diff. (4wd) and 75w140 for the rear diff.  Plus the LSD additive.

Well I changed the rear diff fluid yesterday (20K).  The fluid was very clean, with no metal.  I think I will go a lot longer before changing it the next time.  I'm thinking 30K to 50K.
