I think I'd like the AWD XLS much better, but the only one they had at the time was parked inside the showroom. Either way, it's just my opinion. I tell people all the time that it shouldn't much matter what I think. While on the web site, I read the review too. I found it pretty biased especially after I read the CRV and RAV4 reviews. This suggests that I went into the test drive looking to criticize the Outlander. This was not the case. I head into my test drives with an open mind. The FWD LS just didn't feel good to me. In general, the level of refinement seemed much lower than in the Honda or Toyota. If you check my review of the Saturn VUE, you'll find I similarly think that V6 needs AWD to keep torque steer under control. Not everyone has the ability to separate the two things. I believe my review is legitimate as a review of the specific vehicle I drove. I just checked the review, and I do say this right in the intro: "I would have preferred to drive an AWD XLS, the top trim complete with attractive 18-inch alloys. However, the only XLS was parked in the showroom. Outside were a pair of the base trim front-drive ES, complete with the special intro price of $19,990 plus $625 destination. So take this review with a grain of salt--an AWD XLS would likely do better." How many reviewers are careful enough to clearly make that sort of distinction? Not many in my experience. Instead, on other forums I've found debates over why the Camry recently finished first in one comparison test and last in another. One big part of the reason: one test included the SE trim, while the other included the much more softly sprung XLE. I will grant it's not the most polished review. I drive the car, then I sit down at the computer and quickly bang something out. Some people like the resulting directness. Others would like more polish. No doubt we're going to have to agree to disagree here. If you didn't like the Outlander, you wouldn't have bought it. I'm fine with you liking it. With some people, if you don't agree with their opinions then you're clearly an idiot. I don't think that way at all: tastes and evaluations are going to vary, and it's not really possible to pick one as the right one. The world would be much more boring otherwise.
