Each type of review has its place. But I must admit than when there are reviews on my site, they will be from car buyers.

I do appreciate the number of owners who have signed up to participate in the reliability research. With enough participation, the 2007 will be in the May set of results.

Just to lay it out there. My first choice for our new vehicle, based on previous experience with our 2005 sienna(not without issues but mechanically solid), was a V6 Rav4 somewhat for the 3.5l 268hp V6. CRV and Forester/outback were options, but for a V6 or turbo models(not available in CRV) prices are right up with the toyota. I did the comparisons here in Calgary and area(seller's market, for sure) and getting a discount on the Rav was impossible. I buy vehicles in cash so the bottom line is what matters to me, not leasing or finance deals. Let me give you some figures.

V6 Rav4 base model with taxes and transport, etc was $35 275.00Cdn
V6 sport model with taxes and transport, etc was $37 153.00Cdn

that is what it would have cost me, there are no discounts here...for the base model V6 or sport V6 model...we won't even get into the limited.

After some hunting and negotiations, I got a 4wd LS with convenience package, somewhat comparable to the sport model(a bit of apples/oranges going on, things like the split tailgate, sweet 6speed going to the outie while the extra 50hp going to the toyota) for $30 250.00Cdn out the door. A $5000 to $7000 savings.

There are a host of things that go into a new car decision...cost, features, reliability, warranty. The fact that Mitsu is newer/smaller in the Canadian market was good for me. They are so widespread outside of North America that reliability wasn't a problem for me, but it did get me the 5/5/10 year warranty. It's a fun little wagon that is meeting all our needs and we are enjoying it.

There are now 37 owners of the 2007 enrolled, and 6 of the 2008. We'll need more of the latter to include it in the survey, but the 2007 is in there. Results likely in May.

Additional participants would help use provide more precise results.

Well, thinking of this thread I test drove an XLS a few weeks ago. With the lower profile tires the steering and handling were quite a bit better, among the best of any small SUV. I'm thinking a larger base wheel on the lower trims would be a good idea, but for handling and styling.

I still didn't care for the torque steer and ease of spinning a front wheel. But opting for AWD would fix that.

I haven't written up this test drive yet, but hope to in the next week or two.

On the research, there are now 40 2007s enrolled, so there should be a result for the year in May. Thanks, guys.

Of course, more participants would be better still.

All-

There is definitely a BIG difference with torque steer in 2WD vs. 4WD. If it bothers me, I just put it in 4WD Auto and I leave torque steer at the intersection - know what I mean? In 4WD, this little shuttle really scoots and handles great - the variance in tire size (between an Ls and XLs, say) is a HUGE difference, as well. I drove both and can honestly say the XLS is a much tighter automobile - as it should be since it is more expensive. It's been raining a TON here in the South lately - and this little car hasn't slipped once - I ABSOLUTELY love this car...

I agree, this thing can move around corners in 4WD, and lock is awesome when you want to get a smooth, no slip launch at a street light. I'm kind of happy that I got the LS though, all I wanted was the 4WD so that was the logical thing to do, I drove an XLS and you could feel every bump on the road, after driving the LS it was day/night difference, I guess its due to the bigger side wall, considering both have the same suspension components.

I actually enjoy the harsher ride, since I'm coming from an 91 Acura Legend Coupe - makes me feel like I'm driving my old car, but pumped up on steroids. I agree with you though, the LS was a little more plush over bumps - I guess they did a good job of catering to everyone's tastes. Yeah, Mitsu...

My 2003 Outtie has just ticked over 250000Km, yep the old 1/4 million in under 5 years. No rattles, squeaks, or problems. It is all about maintenance - regular servicing, every 15000Km oil change, and every 100000 timing belt. An absolutely bullet-proof car, even with a lot of very hard offroad work. If the new model is as good - you couldn't go wrong.

I still need to post a full review of the 2008. With such a large difference between the LS and XLS, the happy medium for many people might be between the two.

For what it's worth, I drove the new 2009 Forester (which looks a lot like the Outlander) recently, and its suspension is far too soft for my taste.

On the research, the 2007 will be in the May results, but probably with an asterisk for insufficient sample size.
