I personally think it's the transmission since I've only noticed it in full auto and full auto mode is defnitely optimized for economy (which I've been quite pleased with in town). I think it's in too high of a gear and is downshifting before applying any throttle input.

Well, at first I thought it was tranny downshift lag.
Then I put it in manual shift and watched it come down into 2nd, I left it in 2nd long enough for it to sort itself out then pressed on the gas and it still hesitates followed by over throttle.
I need to try downshifting manually into 2nd, and turning off the ASC.
Theres lots of 15mph twisties between my house and the dealer so Ill play with it on the way there.

I get some hesitation off stop but that bit seems to be normal for the type of set up. The lag in second is different.

Im taking it to the dealer tonight and see what they say and possibly drive a different outlander.

I have driven a Jeep Compass and that funky belt drive tranny has some lag but it gave me more of the feeling of accidentially pressing on the brake instead of the gas (if that makes sense). it seemed like it had to wind up to go anywhere.

When you get the hitch will you post a pic of it. Im debating whether to go oem or have my regular hitch guy do it for me when theyre available in a few weeks. Hes awesome.

First, welcome BGN. Second, I'm extremely sensitive to transmission lag, and it's something I intentionally looked at when test driving all the vehicles before the Outlander.
From my testing, it appears that 6-speeds have greater lag than 5-speeds; makes sense, more gears to go through and the oil pumps are not heavy duty.
However the Outlander's lag was significantly less than other manufacturers'. For example, the 6-speed on the Camry is just awful, about 2 seconds. My estimates on the Outlander put it's lag at around 1/4 to 1/2 second. And yes the longer 1/2 second does appear at 2nd or 3rd. That's why I love the paddle shifters on the XLS, much more convenient than the gear shifter; makes for fun 90 deg. turns.
If you're seeing 3+ second lags; either something is not quite right with the tranny, or maybe you can disconnect the battery and have it "relearn" your driving style, or it could be that our driving styles are significantly different enough that I'm not seeing that 3+ sec. lag.

Thanks everyone for the welcome

Well the tech at the dealer said that its not normal. Unfortunately I have to bring it back for the factory Mitsu tech to look at it on tuesday. No biggie at least the first tech noticed it. Hopefully the Mitsu tech notices it too.  I wonder if theyve made any software changes, my first thought is updating the software because thats really what it seems like.  Its manu date is Oct 06 it looks to be one of the first ones out.

So anyone reading this that thinks its a problem with mitsu would have to know that everything I touch breaks. Everytime I buy something new theres a problem with it even dumb little cheap things, they even make fun of me at work because of it. Its usually some weird thing that is almost impossible to resolve.

As far as the problem you push on the gas when its already in second manual or auto shifting it waits 3sec then takes off abrubtly the techs description is that it takes off fast enough to push you back into the seat.

A good example is turning left off a main road to a neighborhood road.  You approach and slow, the traffic opens enough for you to make the turn, you push on the gas and it sits there meanwhile the traffic you hoped to avoid is 3 sec closer so when it finally takes off its pretty close to getting you run over by the oncoming traffic fortunately by this time your now rocketing forward. Keep in mind that the vehicle is not stopped so when you initiate the turn and press on the gas you spend 3 sec rolling into traffic before you start acelerating again. I would hate it to happen to a new driver or one that is not comfortable driving.

I also tried it with the ASC control off, that was fun. The engine is quite torquey off the line the ASC keeps you from spinning your tires out everytime you press on the gas quickly.  It also helps you hold the turn. It still had the same issues with ASC off.

Yeah, that sounds extreme. At least the tech was able to reproduce and acknowledge it.
Just a FYI, my build date is November and I do not have this issue.
Keep us updated on what the Mitsu tech discover.

I cant answer any of your questions, but i will say that i am really impressed with your attention to detail and use of technical terms. Pretty good for a girl

You ever spend any time on a racing circuit?

Thanks  Nope no racing here, my mom did when I was a wee youngen. She raced my dads stock '63 vette. My dad worked on it but I dont remember helping him or hanging around.  My favorite ride is a car that handles well.

I do repair my motorcycles, I have a Ninja that I ride and a Katana that my husband rides. Hes learning how to work on them himself but usually hes just the tool guy. lol

As I mentioned before just about everything I own breaks or has some problem so I guess thats how I got interested in fixing things growing up. For the past 18 yrs I have repaired various equipment and worked in technical support.

Soo I guess its just the way I am

Yes,  I actually have a Storm that has Lotus designed suspension and a Lotus esprit engine minus the turbo.  Unfortunately thats the closest Ive come to riding in a Lotus anything.
My favorite vehicles though are sleepers, ones that dont look like anything but kick your behind off the light.
