At idle, after the car starts warming up I hear a sound like playing cards clicking in bicycle spokes.  It slowly increases in volume and then the sound changes to more like a "ticking" sound.  It seems to coming from the back of the engine and is accompanied by an increase in engine vibration but I can't be sure.  I notice no problems from this (yet) but thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions.  Thanks.

What year car and motor?  It sounds to me like lifter tick.  If it's by the EGR, chances are good that it's your EGR, lol.
Does the tick increase in speed if you rev the motor?  The vibration could mean that there's something going on with your motor.  The ticking isn't a cause of it.  When was the last time you changed your oil?  What did you use?  Anyway, need more info or I could go on with more questions.  "Ticking from the back of the motor" is very vague.

I think this will be chalked up to lifter tick, as SIlver said

Yes, it increases as the engine is rev'd.  From searching it looks like a lot of Galants suffer from this and there's not much to do about it?

You could turn your stereo up... the motor wont suffer because of it. Its simply lifter tick.

My 99 has always done that and I bought mine brand new in 99. I just learned to ignore it.
