XLS Battery Life When Running DVD Players

I have two questions regarding battery life with respect to watching a DVD using both front and rear screens with the sound output through the Rockford-Fosgate stereo:

1. The user manual says that you shouldn't run the DVD player (with the engine off) for an excessive amount of time as this will drain the battery. What is considered an excessive amount of time? (I've done this for at least an hour with no ill effects).

2. If you do run the DVD player so that the battery drains, the user manual states that it (the DVD player) will shut off. If this occurs, will there still be enough power in the battery to start the engine?

(The inlaws live on an island with is about 2 hours away by ferry. I want to know if it's safe to watch a movie during this trip without fear of stranding the Outlander on the ferry due to a dead battery).

Thanks!

If the DVD player shuts off, more than likely the car will not start. Im not 100% sure about that... but its not worth making a dick out of yourself and being stuck on a ferry

The way I read it is there is a built-in failsafe.  The DVD will shut off at a certain point ensuring there is enough in the battery to start the car.  I haven't tried it but this would be an easy test.

Why not try it when your safe and at home rather than when your on a boat?

I didn't say I was planning to test it on a ferry... I was just wondering if anyone else had any insight into this.
