what size rims and tires should I put on my 97 Spyder GST?  I was thinking either 18's or 19's, but I don't know what size rubber... and unfortunately I don't know too much about tires and rubber.... I have the stock rims now. 205/55/16.... the things I'm not sure about is the offset and things like that. I know what the 205/55/16 means... any help out there would be appreciated.  sorry for my ignorance....Shaun

Tire sizes you can use are as follows:

215/40-18
225/40-18 (recommended)
235/40-18 (requires minor mods to fit)

215/35-19
225/35-19 (recommended)
235/35-19 (requires minor mods to fit)

Make sure that you get a wheel with a offset as close to stock as possible (i.e. +40-46mm).  Also I'd recommend nothing wider than a 7.5" wide wheel.  I know there are 2g Eclipses with 8" and 8.5" wheels, but those require mods you may not want to make to fit properly without rubbing, or may not be the look you want.

The DSM VFAQ has a lot of good, tried and true info.

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/macross/2Gfitment.html

Use this calculator for tire sizing also...

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit

Just plug in your current size and then the size you want and this will calculate how much faster or slower your wheels will spin with whatever configuration you get or want.
Stock offset for your 2G is +46mm.  The lower that number goes the farther out the wheel goes.  The larger the offset number goes, the farther in it goes.  Follow?
I don't agree with a larger than 17x7" wheel because of performance issues, unless you get light rims, but that's up to you.

Motegi makes some lightweight 18s and 19s.

Hello.

I have a question  .Silvercupe97 do you have any photos of your Eclipse online ,because id like to buy 17x8 et 35 for my Eclipse GS and i'm very sceptic about it. I would be very gratefulfor for some pics and coment about this size and  fitment of this rims.

Thank you very much for your help and time . Jurij
