Have a 97 Montero w/ 3.5. Put plugs and wires in it and now has misfire on #3 and 6 cylinders. No spark coming from coil. Swapped 3/6 coil with 1/4 coil and coil fires. Have power and ground at harnes connector to 3/6 coil. Am confused!!!!:/?#&*!!!!! Has anyone ever seen this? I am thinking that it is the crankshaft ring that the crank sensor gets its reference from but looking at crankshaft don't see a ring or crank sensor.

I think I had the same problem as you sort of, my outside coil wouldnt fire bought a new one still wouldent fire. Swapped outside with middle then it fired on the middle but the outside (newly swappend) would not fire.  Checked the juice on both points going to the outside coil and there was juice but a sizeable amout less then supposed to.  The only diffrence is that after my my montero warmed up the outside coil started firing again.  After a few other guesses and changes I ended up changing the computer and it fixed the problem.
