I am new here, but have a 2004 Outlander AWD. Love the vehicle. Is it perfect ofcourse not, but it gets my family plus my two Golden Retrievers from point A to point B. I kind of laugh when I see members trying to improve performance. Guys this is not a sports car its not designed to go fast.
Having said that  I have about 73000 km on it and noticed the engine was starting to run a bit rough at idle and sometimes would stall just when you came to a stop and accelerated quickly. Thought maybe new sparkplugs. Dealer said probably the throttlebody needs to be cleaned. Some $100 CDN to do the job.
Quick search on the net and a spray can of Throttle body cleaner and half an hour later, car runs like new.
Plus the satisfaction you did it yourself

You will take that statement back once you have been in an 07. Congratulations on your fix, that DIY feeling is priceless.

While the 07 is not the fastest to 60 (V6 Rav4), the jump off the line in this vehicle is almost too much  sometimes.  I have to be careful not to snap the little ones heads into their car seats.  I "blame" the 6 speed.

Hi there

I have deliberately not test driven the 2007, because I know it will put my 2004 to shame. The new ones are indeed very nice and I would love to get one, but not in the budget.
Its too bad Mitsubishi is so underrated. Originally I am form Holland and both my dad and I owned Mitsubishis there. They were very reliable , my 2004 so far is doing fine as well. I noticed even some reviews dont give them that much credit.
You are a lucky guy with your 2007. .

Paul

That would really depend on the definition of a "sports car". I guess the Evolander, apart from its cosmetic upgrade, can easily qualify as "sports" SUV. Just can't compare it to a Ferrari though, as they have their own class.

Hi Paul,
nice to see another Dutch-speaking person on the forum here! I'm from Flanders, Belgium, and enjoying the 2004 AWD as much as you do!
I don't laugh when I read members are trying to improve performance on this car, I think it's quite ambitious and brave :)
I agree the 2004 outtie is not "fast" compared to the quickest SUV's available, but the 2.4 MIVEC setup is certainly smooth enough and does/did outperform some of its direct competitors. that's certainly the case in the European market where the focus is more on fuel economy than on performance off-the-line.
I chose for the outlander because there was no other sporty looking and smooth driving SUV on the market about a year ago (in this price class), here in Belgium
cheers,
Bram
