For one thing there are two reprog TSB's for the problem you are having, there is one specifically for the pinging and knocking and there is another one for the misfire, lean fuel trim, and O2 sensor codes, but either way, if your local dealer does a PCM reflash it should be done to the latest software.  I am not sure how it works in the States, but here I automatically check for TSB's with customer concerns and do the quick easy **** first rather than trying to change parts in hopes that it will fix the problem.  Besides if its a software issue wtf good is throwing parts at it gonna do.

PURPOSE Incorrect PCM software parameters may cause the MIL to turn on and set the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes: 2006 Eclipse 3.8L - P0300 and/or P0303 (Misfire Detected) 2006 Eclipse 3.8L and 2.4L - P0116 (ECT Circuit Problem) and P0131/P0151 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Low Voltage) 2005 Galant - P2100 (Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Open) 2006 Galant - P0131/P0151 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Low Voltage) 2004.5 Endeavor - P0133/P0153 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Slow Response) 2005 Endeavor - P0133/P0153 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Slow Response) and P2100 (Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Open) 2006 Endeavor - P0131/P0151 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Low Voltage) To eliminate the above conditions, reprogram the PCM as described in this bulletin. thats one

either way, there is only one procedure for reprograming and I know our VCI is equiped with the latest software.
