Hi to all,

This is my first post here in this forum.
I have Mit. Galant 02 and it has 59500 miles on it. I was wondering if it is the right time to do transmission flush. I checked the service manual but I don’t see any information regarding at what mileage we should do trans. flush.

I checked the fluid and it is still kind of red and doesn't smell that bad...not sure when the last owner changed it ( It was 56000 miles when I bought it).

If it is the right time to do trans. flush then what would be the best/recommended Transmission fluid brand/rating for my car.
Also, do I need Power Flush or just regular?

And do we need to change engine oil as well, while doing the trans flush?

Thanks in advance,
Biks

You can't change your transmission fluid too often. Even if the previous owner just changed the transmission fluid 5,000 miles before you got it, you won't do any damage by doing it now. On the other hand, if it's never been changed before and you decide not to change it, the longer you go without it, the more you probably shouldn't change it. To be on the safe side, I would change the tranny fluid now. As for oil, it's always a good idea to change the oil just in case the previous owner didn't. Get this car on your own schedule quickly so that you can better care for it. Good luck.

At 60K would be a great time to change the tranny fluid.  Use only Mitsubishi Diamand ATF SP III.  It's about $6 a qt.

A local mechanic suggested me weird method of flushing tranmission. His idea is to:
* First Drain Tranmission oil
* Ignite the remaining Transmission oil that remains inside the case !!

I don't have much idea about it but for sure I think it is a horrible idea.

Does not sound like much of an idea.  I would recommend against listening to that mechanic.

I checked for Mitsubishi Diamand ATF SP III and it costs 10.5$/qt and total cost (with power flush) is 275$  where as regular flush ( according to them it is regular ATF with some additive) is only 90$!!

That is huge difference...do you guys think the cost if ok?

That dealer is way over charging.  The fluid list for $5.90 qt. and we only charge $150.00 for a Trans. Flush and that includes 12 qts of fluid.  Part # ACH1ZC1X05   Dimand ATF SP III
