okay here's the deal, i have a 2000 Eclipse GS & i had my pioneer radio in my car, to make a long story short - the face plate shorted out and now my needle lights don't work, i took my gauge cluster out and found that the three main lights that light up the needles were burned out, (keep in mind all my other lights work ie; turn signal indicators, seat belt indicator, bright light indicator, brake indicator - every thing else works) i replaced the bulbs and tried again, still a no-go on the needle lights.and also the lights inside my AC/Heater control cluster and the light that is in the consol in front of the gear shift are also not working... this leads me to believe that they are all on the same circuit...  My fuses are fine, i have checked them several times.

originally i had my radio wired through the wiring harness's ground wire...but for some reason , now when i use that wire (instead of grounding out through a metal part of the chassis) the radio turns off when i turn on my head lights...i have obviously shorted some thing out, but i have no idea where to start looking or what to do...can some one help me or point me in the right direction as to where to start....it really sucks not being able to see how fast im going at night :)

thanks in advance

I actually have a similar problem with my car now. Not exactly the same.

95 Galant.
I got in my car one day and my dashboard lights stoped working. Turn signal and 'check engine' lights were fine. The instrument panel with my radio and Ac lights also dont work. Although the radio and AC do work.

Finally i noticed that my tail lights also dont work anymore.

The wierd thing is, I noticed that when i brake, sometimes the instrument panel/dashboard lights up, sometimes it dont. It always goes away when i let go of the brakes however.

Can anyone help? Ill be bluntly honest and admit my inadequacy with cars up front.

First of all... details, why not grounding it to chassis? what wire did you say you tap it into? are you not tapping it somewhere else, something cluster related?
