I own a 2006 GS Eclipse(1st Mitsubishi) with the 5 sp manual.  I bought it new in late 2005 when they were first released.

Has anyone had their 60,000 mile service yet??  Mine will be coming up before too long.  The Dealership told me that they flushed all fluids and changed the timing belt.  The total cost was going to be $900-$1,000!!

Does the timing belt need to be changed????  I was reading an article about today's timing belts lasting til 100,000 miles.  I have owned 3 other cars in my lifetime that have gone well over 100,000 miles and never changed a timing belt.

Just wondering what you people think.

With a Mistu, its imperative that you change the t-belt every 60k.
$900 sounds like a fair price for a 60k.
Oil change
Coolant flush
trans service t-belt
rotate/balance tires
Air filter
complete check of everything.
All that plus the labor cost would add right up to aroun $900

That's about right.
Timing belt with drive belts   450.00
Tune up                               100.00
Coolant Flush                      100.00
M/T Fluid change                100.00
Oil Change                            30.00
Air Filter                                30.00
Tire Rotate & Balance           50.00
                                         _______
Total                                     860.00

Plus you could do a induction service, Fuel injector flush, Brake fluid flush, power steering fluid flush.

Its a 2006, pretty new. I would let the dealership do it.

I have to agree with you Sebba.  I am no mechanical moron as I've worked on a lot of Ford and GM products.  The cars I worked on were not near as new as my Eclipse.  I'm just going to let the dealership do the work.  This way if something goes wrong, the dealership has to make things right, instead of me forking out money to correct any mistakes I might make.
