this is actually a two part question.  first off, my 95 GST is completely stock... i bought it used last year and haven't had money to do anything to it yet.  My shocks are making strange noises, and i'm assuming that they need to be replaced.  so.. first question

1) should i replace the entire spring/shock assembly or just shocks?  the car has 125,000 miles, and i'm not sure when it was replaced last ... or if it ever was.

2) what brand is the cheapest most reliable??  I'm not looking to make a show car... i just want something that is reliable and relatively inexpensive.  I'm not really looking to lower my car, but if your suggestoins include suspension that lowers... nothing more than an inch please.

thanks for the help

what kinda noise are they making because it could be something other than the shocks. There are many suspension components that make noise when they are going. If its just a squeek during bumps its nothing to worry about.

But if it is the shocks then go with kyb gr2's. they are good reliable aftermarket struts. I dont think you should need to replace springs.

it's kinda hard to explain.. the noise occurs when i brake at slow speeds.. and it's repetitive knock noise (that sound like blown shocks.. but strange cause it only occurs when I brake).  Sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car somewhere...

well IMO replace the whole assembly shocks and coils for performance......they last and make your car have a meaner stance...and theres rarley such thing as "cheap and reliable"

Yeah there is no such thing as cheap and reliable, its one or the other. And yeah I recommend the kyb's also they're very good. And lowering your car an inch is pretty much pointless, cuz the least most brands come is 1.5 inch drop. And I would recommend just changing the struts, but I wouldn't change anything until you actually know what's wrong.

i agree, just replace the strut only. KYB GR-2's are really nice and relatively inexpensive. Id go with those
