Why would you need alchohol to reduce your inhibitions enough to make new friends and relax? I'm not judging, I'm just boxing in your logic.

im not saying i need it, hell i dont even drink that often. well didnt, but im in college now so its a different story lol. but im just saying ( and i know you agree with me here) that it does help loosen people up and gets people to do **** that they would normally be too afraid to do. it helps you live. now im not saying go out and drink till you puke and cant walk, but a few beers here and there, sure as hell doesnt hurt

are you trying to convince me or yourself?

I'm just pulling your chain. The facts are that we live in a society that is pretty socially restrictive and the consequences of being out of step are pretty severe. That means that people are pretty inhibited and often need some excuse to take risks. In your age group, there is intense social pressure to consume alchohol a la coneheads. I personally supported 3 Pennsylvania breweries while I was in college.

but this has to give you insight into what these kids are going through.

I grew up in the era of Punk, not that much has changed in 30 years. Personally, I would say things have tamed down.
