I made a mp3 audio DVD with Nero last night. The DVD plays well on a PC but it does not play at all on my Outie's DVD player. So I looked at the Mitsu manual again. The manual never mentions it can play mp3 DVD but mp3 CD and video DVD.

So, I realized that the only way to make a mp3 DVD is to make a fake viedo DVD that has a DVD file structure but has mp3 as its main content. This can be done by any DVD authoring tools. However, I'm lazy to use complicated tools for such a job.

Here is what I found simple and working for me:

http://audio-dvd-creator.com/guide.htm

The advantage of an audio DVD is that you can rip a CD with much higher quality (or even lossless) than the Outie music server does. It is believed that the Outlander music server,  just like other similar products, rips CD at a bit rate of 128kbps. Of course, a DVD can store lots of CDs if you pick 128k rate.  The one I made is 256k, containing 22CDs.

Cheers

22 CD's on one DVD is pretty nice, I would just hate having to navigate through all of that. Are you able to have it read the title info as well?

I think if I use a dual layer 8.5G DVD and choose a 128kbps bit rate, I can put 80+ CDs on it.  Remember that the music server is just 10Gb.
Yes, you can manage to put title, author, artist info to each song. However, people here will tell you won't see the titles on the DVD while driving.
So, it is not as convenient as the built-in music server for sure.

Another reason for someone to figure out a hack for this.

Great but can you be more specific.  How exactly do you make your DVD for your Outlander?

Do you simply put you mpg files in the VIDEO_TS directory or do you have to make VOB files from the mpg files?

Do you have to make "Menu" to navigate or directories is enough?

I think you've found something very interesting. Great job.

You don't need to play with the directory structures if you use the Audio DVD Creator.
Please read the guide:
