hello, i'm a 2000 mercury cougar owner and i've been having major problems with it.  i'm hoping to sell it this spring.  i was just wondering if there were any problems a lot of you guys are having with your eclipses.  i am a college student and i'd rather spend my money on upgrading than repairing so i need a reliable car.  one of my friends had a 95 eclipse RS and had a few problems with it, but i think it was a lemon.  please if anyone has had mechanical problems with their eclipse, let me know.....i might be getting one soon.  your help is greatly appreciated.

I personally havent had any problems with my car...I've also only had it for less then a year. But I think that they are pretty good cars. I've obviously had the minor problems that u are going to get with any car anyway...but nothing big.

if you are looking at 2nd gen  you will get crank walk, which in time will kick your ass if you don't do something about it.  also if turboed... run thee chance for boost spike/creep.  other than that, the GSX wheels suck and are easily bent. umm.. thats about it.  my 97, I had the usual, replace water pump/all belts.  New clutch (kid I bought this from was a first time stick driver...  what a car to learn on! and he busted some forks and 3 sycros), and thats all I can think of.  they are very dependable.  1st gen has a not as good tranny so watch out for them, and 3rd gens aren't DSMs anymore... :(

Honostly, if you want a reliable car don't go with a dsm.  I love my 2g and love the power they put out, but sometimes it really just gets to me.  All the little things add up and you'll get fed up soon if you don't have an outrageous obsession for these cars.  Like me!
