I've considered it. I'm more of a sedan guy but thinking about a project convertible for my son. space wise, I'm pretty sure the 3200 TD would fit but it's an inline mount and I'm worried how much trouble I would have mounting traverse.
Could probably pull the drivetrain from an expo and make it a vr.

it's the 4M41 engine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_4M4_engine
available from 1999 but not in the US, maybe find one in Canada or Mexico. I have seen them on ebay for $2500-$3000 US.
inline TD 4cyl, same block as the 2.8TD about 20% more hp lots more torque, gear that differential up!
to mount it traverse, you'd have to remove fan, don't know if it has a sensor for electric fan. probably a lot more issues. biggest worry would be motor mounts and bolting up transmission.

wow! I thought mitsu was all over Mexico! You can buy them used from Japan at pretty good prices. will cost about $2800-$3400 to ship. Hard to get tagged in US though.

what year is your monty? are you currently doing the swap? I'd love to know what your issues are with engine mounts and bolt pattern on block/transmission.
One of the things I love about mitsu is that they are pretty diverse so I don't think a lot of this swapping should be a problem but I want to make sure before I find a 4m4 on ebay.

its a 98..no not now no swap. im sure i will have issues if i find an engine....so far im waiting till mines dead and never to be revieved....its still a good engine and always has been....im not sure if the block/bolts differ or not im sure they do....ill jus have to find out sooner or later...thx to dusty i found the similar car that i want to import somthing like this
