jbrough7 -> Upon Just Discovering The Eclipse... (9/17/2007 9:55:44 AM)

Just had to write.  I'm a newbie to the forum and was just in a Mitsu dealer to look at the deals on the '07 Eclipses.  I saw a couple of used ones there and they looked great!  Then I saw the year of the used ones.  03 and 04!!

I thought, "Holy Crap!  Those cars look fantastic!"  So I ran home and started to research the third gen.  For some reason , I never really saw them before in all their glory.  I'm in Canada and they are just NOT a big seller up here so maybe that is the reason.

But the 2000 - ???? model looks fantastic.

How do you guys and gals rate them?  What are things to look for in a used one?  Would you stay with the four for the better gas mileage or is the six more reliable??  Do tall guys fit in the car??

Thanks for your help!

Jim

if your not looking for great performance, and moreso just for looks and a daily driver, the 3rd gen eclipse is a great car to own (2000-2005 btw) the 4 cylinder model gets around 30 mpg highway also (not sure about the v6 model) but if your looking for more performance then anything, and have a lot of patience for reliability sake (or lack there of) then i would check into the 2nd gen (from 1995-1999 turbo models) they tend to break down a lot more often then the 3rd gens tho, but if you have the patience to fix them, then it is deffinately worth it IMO

First off both the 4cyl and 6cyl are great. There are no super bad problems with them. Just goofy little quirks like the dash cracking a little.

Im about 6ft 2+ and fit in one just fine... and the back is cumfee too!

Use the search function to find my little "what to look for" (type that in) write up.

Personally i hate the look of them, i think they are super femanine (my sister owns one lol)

yea i only like the 3gs with no wings and those door "waves" smoothed out

Wingo171 -> RE: Upon Just Discovering The Eclipse... (9/17/2007 4:03:33 PM)

wow, No wing is FUGLY!!!! and smoothed doors? take away the styling why don't you!  Just say you want a 2nd gen. lol. The 3rd Gen is Beautiful!  GT (6 cylinder gets around 20-22 MPG. 2nd Gens have a big problem of Crankwalk which basically means you have to buy a new engine, and the 3rd gens don't have that problem.  I would suggest manual tranny though since mitsubishi's have a small problem with transmssions. namely automatics. *much like Dodge*

General rule of thumb, 5spd OWNS

well no $#!+ its the nicest one youve seen, its a 3g with a front mount, and the paint job is flawless, and the rims are nice, and the tint adds to the black paint, and the headlights are sweet. i do like the 3g's with the stock spoilers then w/o them. they are far from ricey and they just add a nice touch to it
