I know this may be some dumb questions to you all, but MUST I use 92 octane fuel and if so why?

Is it normal for the OHC V6 MIVEC to make a knocking sound?  (Sort of sounds similar to a lifter noise in an old car but of course mine is brand new.)

If it says to use 92... use it. Its not like Mitsu is getting money from Exxon.

Did I say I wasn't using the premium?  I just asked if I must.  I AM using the premium but others are saying it really isn't necessary.  Even a guy at a Mistsubishi dealership.

And I was told the noise is normal due to the OHC engine.  Just wanted anotther opinion not accusations or assumptions.  Thanks.

hey hey relax. Nobody actually said anything. Jason used the word 'if'

Just for your info, the guys at the Mitsubishi Dealership are stupid assholes. I know more about Mitsubishi than they do.

As hopefully you read in the article, the level of octane you put in your car is vital to the engines health. When a car company such as mercedes or in this case mitsubishi, "recommend" a certain octane rating chances are, that "recommendation" is a must. This means this engine, was tested and tune to runs it's most safest and proficcient level on this particular octane level. I know it could be a pain sometimes, but it's vital.

Anything to prevent knocking is worth the money. I'm sure if you put 87 octane it will throw a check engine light.

Sorry if we came off too strong. were more here to help
