I am thinking about buying a car that has a 20g turbo in it. Most of the others have had 16g in them. I know the 20 is good for more hp(like 450 or something??) but does it really matter if im not going to get up that high? Like what if i use the 20g and i only have 270hp? Will it be ****ed up or work different?

Also, what exactly is turbo lag?

You can run a lower boost with the 20g and be around 270...   But for only that much hp, you might as well go with a 16g..  The 20g is more efficient, and will hit those numbers putting less stress on the turbo, but only going for that much hp isnt really putting any stress on a 16g either..  But you will notice more turbo lag with the 20g over the 16g, so a 16g would be more practical for you..

and turbo lag is just the time that it takes to spool your turbo up..  The 20g is a bigger turbo and takes more time to spool to full boost..  The smaller the turbo the less lag you will get. Unless you go with a dual ball bearing turbo..  Some of them will spool faster than a slightly smaller turbo..

If you only want 300HP dont go with a 20g because youll get more lag for nothing more than what a 16G will provide.  A 16G can get you mid 300s.  on top o that the 20G will be ou of its effiecentcy range if your only makeing like 300HP

well, i agree w/ them in the sense that it's more practical but like TheAdvocate said, it will put less stress on the turbo if you have a 20g.    and if you don't have the money right away to get a 16g than you can run the 20g for a while until you get the 16g.   you will need to retune the car after it has been installed and you need to make sure that it's not JUST a 20g turbo that he has upgraded.  you need to make sure that they have all the suporting mods for the 20g or you won't be able to run anything over like 220-240whp b/c the fuel won't support it.   a lil more info and your budget will help us loads, thanks.
