Get an intake, exhuast, boost controller, 16g and you should be able to outrun a 3000gt.  Plus this will be cheaper than an engine swap.

a 16g is a mitsubishi manufactured turbo.  It's a decent size turbo and normal variations flow 505 cfm.  It can support up to 375 crank hp, so it's more than enough for most.  99% of all people who want to go fast but also want to drive their cars daily need *only* a turbo this size.  It's an excellent street turbo with good spool characteristics.  Toaster_power, if you're really a newbie to all this stuff, it's best not to go head-first into turbocharging.

Maybe I missed it or something, but I'm too lazy to backtrack in this conversation.  What model Eclipse are we talking about anyways?  Is it a non-turbo or turbo model?  Just curious so I know what is the best route to making it fast.

You're going to need a whole front clip from a turbo eclipse.  You know this right?  The engine bay layout for the non-turbo eclipse is total opposite from the turbo model.  You're also going to have to change out the fuel lines and fuel pump because they are different.
