Was the car not insured or did you only have liability.  I'm sure the insurance would probably total it if its that damaged and hopefully give you enough to pay the car off.

i had only liability.... tried to file a claim but they told me that since it was my fault.... they couldn't do anything for me... they didn't even want to see the car.... not sure what they did about the whole thing... i'm still paying my normal payments to the bank with a NINE THOUSAND DOLLAR PAPER WEIGHT sitting in my driveway.... i'm just trying to get it rolling again.... maybe check the carfax report if anybody has access to do that.... i'm not gonna pay 30 bucks to just check one vehicle ya know.... i'm pretty sure that flood damage will show up on there.... so who knows what i'm gonna do... might just bite the bullet and take it to a salvage yard and just get what i can from parting it out.... only thing damaged on the car other than the engine is the front bumper..... electrically, everything works.... power windows sunroof, door locks, keyless entry..... lights all around.... just the engine seems to be siezed.... (just want to push this damn thing off a cliff somewhere and be done with it) insurance would cover it then! LOL

I owe about 3400 on my 3 g and its insured to the max in nc they wont loan on a car unless its fully insured, they even made me purchase a 200 dollar gps tracking device so i could get the loan. next time go full insurance its worth it.

From an electronic tech perspective.
Nobody mentioned this so far, but your electrics will be going south too.
Electricity and swamp water are a bad combo.  All your electrical connections will need to be checked/cleaned.  All the electronic modules (not just the ECU) will  need to be checked and or replaced.  Water can be a slow killer of the electrics.  Corrosion takes time to happen, and it will happen.
Some of the circuits in this car carry less than 1 volt normally, any resistance here and you have a malfunction.

Even if you switched off the ignition after hitting the water, some parts of the car are always enegized, letting the car sit for that long with possible water contamination on connectors and electronic module is a a forumla for major problems down the road.  Electrolisys will happen here.
At this point, unless you replace all the wiring and electronic modules and switches, you'll probably never have a trouble free car again.  You'll be having phantom and intermittant problems till the day you get rid of this car.
Scraping it is your best bet.

If he swaps it to a 6g74 then wouldn't he be replacing most of it anyway?

He'd only be replacing the Engine bay electricals IF he bought those with the motor. But the rest of it would still be at risk and then even if you could find all the parts, you'd still have a hell of a time finding somebody to re-wire everything for you. There's only one shop in the closest 3 counties I know of that will mess with car electricals.

i know that scrapping the car would be the best thing to do... but as i still owe 9k on it and i'm in the military (not getting paid very much) i can't just scrap it right now.... as much as i would like to... i don't really have a large budget here to get this car back to running shape.... my feelings about the whole thing are that i should just push the damn thing back in the swamp and say it was stolen..... just to get rid of the thing... but i would still owe money on it.... if i have to keep making the payments till its paid off i might as well try to get it running... not saying that it would be "show ready" but it needs to be able to get me back and forth to work.... (10 miles round trip)..... anybody know any mech's in SC or Northern GA that work on 3G's and would like to maybe take a look and give me an estimate....?
