My check engine light came on in my 96 GS eclipse, so I got it checked and the car is too lean on bank 1.  I just replaced the O2 sensor before this happen.  What is going on?

well im not sure on what your problem could be, but i just wanted to warn you, if you have been told your car is running lean, i would not drive it much, it could really mess up your pistons because it creates excess heat..

do you buy any chance remember the engine code? because if it is p0171 it means that ur mass air flow sensor needs to be cleaned. it isnt really a big deal, go to an auto parts store not autozone(they dont carry it, i got mine at murrys) get mass air flow sensor cleaner, pull the air filter off disconect it from any conecting pipes and clean it off with the spray, dont worry about where it gose it evaporats in like 30 sec.

O.k the code is 171, but on a GS there is no MAF(Mass Air Flow)sensor, i checked everywhere.  I'm thinking it is a vacume leak.  Yo nick_200321 do you remember by last post about the oil?  Well the rear crankshaft seal is leaking pretty bad, and I don't know whether to sell it or not.  What do you think?  I put a lot of stop leak in it a couple of days ago, so I think it will be o.k until I sell the car.  Sell or not?

Here are the couple of things that will cause this code to be thrown.

1. Exhaust laek either around the header or downpipe area where the Bank 1 sensor is (the first 02 sensor)
2. The first o2 sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.
3. A vacuum leak that would cause the bank 1 to be thrown like around the intake manifold or the injector area. I would look into the PCV valve as one culprit here maybe.
