Cold Temp=Loud Valves=Synthetic Oil??

I have an 04 Endeavor that has noisy valves for quite a while after start during the cold months here in southern Ontario. It has had the work done for the service bulliten regarding the noisy valves. I was considering putting synthetic oil in for the winter months in hopes that it would help with the cold starts and possibly eliminate the noisy valves.
Agree or Disagree with me, please let me know since this is not a cheap oil change to do for no reason.

Well i dont know the answer to your question, but i believe the noise you are hearing is the lifters.

You do realize you cant go from synthetic back to conventional?

Try using mobile 1 oil filters the have an antidrainback valve...whatever you call it to help w/ first startups.

Our 2005 has had noisy lifters/valves for quite a while. One lifter must of bled out a while back and it took  a good 5 minutes till the thing quite'd down. Could you explain the service bulliten for noisy valves.  I brought it right to the dealers attention and they recommended 10w30  The motor now has 66000  runs fine but sounds like 266,000.

I believe it was a computer software update that took care of the engine timing etc..

Changes the chemical properties of the cylinder wall. Causes the conventional oil to simply slide off.

AFAIK, thats a myth.  Seen lots of talk about it, general consensus appears to be it doesn't cause any problem to switch back again.

I didn't know.  You set me off a-googling for an hour or two!  And the conclusion I have come up with is that it don't matter if you change back and forth between synthetic and normal.  Not sure why you'd want to do that, but nonetheless, it doesn't appear to matter.
