Short Ram Intakes

EvoSpeed -> Short Ram Intakes (11/6/2007 1:30:50 PM)

I have heard that oil based air filters can screw with the sensor so i was looking into the AEM Intake more specifically 22-435 or http://www.lancershop.com/customer/product.php?productid=21&cat=2&page=1
what are your opinions on this Intake or do you think others are better. Thanks

Its a popular mod.  The one to stay away from is KnN typhoon on the Evos.   What are your cars mods anyway.. there are much better ways to spend your mod money than on an intake.  they wont gain you anything but spool up noise and BOV noise

EvoSpeed -> RE: Short Ram Intakes (11/6/2007 5:35:19 PM)

My car (2005 Evo VIII MR), like most girls before prom, is a virgin...That said the intake would not be the only mod.  I am probably going to do the intake (AEM), TBE (maybe AMS, however very pricey is it worth it or would a cheaper pakage be the same?), Walbro high flow fule pump, AEM Wideband air/fuel sensor, AEM tru-boost EBC, AEM boost gauge(yeah my car has the stock one but it's not PSI...), ECU Flash(either mail-in or In-House depends if i can find a good place) and maybe some other small stuff.

EMonz57 -> RE: Short Ram Intakes (11/6/2007 7:30:07 PM)

well all the stuff you listed are things I have on my car.   The AEM Tru boost is a boost gauge and controller in one.  I wouldnt start with an intake it is pointless honestly.  a drop in filter does just as good and the stock intake is fine for over 300HP.

One mod at a time thats how it goes lol.  I started bone stock on my 03 VIII and now I got around $10k into the motor

Might still go with the AEM over a drop in !. it gives more engine bay space for better flowing UICP and also to a lower degree it looks better.

well if you are planning on doing the IC pipes as well then why not get everything all in one. Injen has a nice setup

EvoSpeed -> RE: Short Ram Intakes (11/7/2007 10:44:24 AM)

Thats true, is the Injen setup a non-oil filter too, because the whole point was to avoid sensor malfunction

TheEngineer -> RE: Short Ram Intakes (11/7/2007 11:16:32 AM)

yes the injen filter is a dry filter

EvoSpeed -> RE: Short Ram Intakes (11/7/2007 1:04:46 PM)

But if i were to get that IC setup if i were to change to a 50 trim late i would need new lower IC piping right?

EvoSpeed -> RE: Short Ram Intakes (11/7/2007 1:51:20 PM)

Also, kinda unrelated....but, is the AMS TBE worth the price or is something like Meagan's just as good?
