1993 Eagle Summit 1.8 auto trans has problems; Hard shifts from 1st to 2nd, kinda hard between 2nd and 3rd and will only shift into 4th when cold. When the trans warms up it will go from 4th to neutral for a second then slam into 3rd if you let it, or just throw the shifter to "N" and let it coast for a bit and pull it back to "D" it will be in 3rd then it will go back and forth for a bit then just stay in 3rd.
Somebody did some interesting work on the transmission harness which is why the O/D button doesn't work.
A few more random quirks;
After the trans warms up it doesn't like to downshift from 3rd, sometimes you can get it into 2nd by use of the gear selector but thats not guaranteed

Sounds like u may have a internal problem going on in your trans, what does the fluid look and smell like?

my brother was having similiar problems with his intrepid. I guess it happens alot with these bigger cars. Im guessing your gonna need either a rebuild or a new tranny. But you could try changing the fluid and see what it does, but i doubt it will fix it

More than just fluid problems goin on there...I had a Probe that did something similar to yours and then it finally let go...Sounds like it's in need of a rebuild or just find one already rebuilt at the junkyard.

Trans fluid burnt, changed out four quarts 1qt at a time thus far and no change. Thought I would give changing the trans filter a go and put some of that lucas trans stuff in it while I was at it

Since its burnt your clutches are pretty much shot.  You might want to start looking for good used on or a rebuilt one.  Did u drop the trans pan when you changed the fluid?  Any metal?

As long as it shifts fine and the fluid is clean, it should last a while.

No. I just used a suction pump and  pulled a quart out of the top, put a fresh quart in then drove it for a while then repeat this process a few times.

You should drop the pan and see if there is metal, like I said earlier your trans is most likley smoked.
