Hello All,

I just spoke with the dealer from Mitsubishi they said that I will need to change the following.

Timing belt
Trans Flush
Coolant Flush
Spark Plugs

He said to do all of this it would cost around $1000.  That kinda seems expensive.  I explained to him that my uncle owns a shop and he said that Why would you want to take it there  wouldn't you want a certified mitsubishi tech to change those out for you.  I bought an extended warranty for my car bumper to bumper 60,0000   and drivetrain is covered till 100,000 miles.  He said that I can take it somewhere else as long as I keep the recites.  I was just thinking about paying my brother to do all of this work.  That price seems just a little bit high.  He explained to me to just get the spark plugs changed it would cost $300.  What do you guys think?

That's about right for a dealer to do the work.  Becareful about the timing belt.  Make sure the person doing it knows what they are doing because if they screw it up it will damage the motor.

Orr Shreveport Mitsubishi
Timing belt       $450.00
Tune up           $250.00
Coolant flush   $100.00
Trans flush       $160.00

Total                $960.00

It wont just damage the motor. It will destroy it. I thought that was the 75K tune up that involved all that?

60k not 75k,  the timing belt is a MUST do at 60k unless you want to chance waisting your cars heads.  at which point it will cost a minimum of aroun $3k to fix and that is if the pistons dont get damaged too

well at a going rate of atleast $75 an hour for labor its no doubt but the timing belt on the GTS is not an easy task to do yourself it is deff a Pain in the balls the rest of everything else could be done with in an hour or two that may even be generous

What I'm planning on doing is taking my car to a midas or something of that sort to get the trans and coolant flush  spark plugs etc done.  Then I want to buy a timing belt maintence kit  and have the dealership put it on.

When it comes to the timing belt, tensioner and pulleys always stay w/ OEM, dont get cheap.  It will cost you in the long run.

Have fun timing that... and getting to the rear cylinder bank... its almost worth paying someone else to do.

Yep I just bought my spyder 2003 and the lite came on on my way back to the car lot after taking it to the mechanic to look it over. It was at  58400 when it popped on. Guess I will be shelling out money right away on the vehicle. Why is the tune up so expensive? Is that changing all the plugs and wires?
