hi, 1st time poster, and new to forum.
can anyone help guide me step by step to reset the service engine soon light?
i belive it came on due to the gas cap as not put back on,than car was started.
but now it remains on, even though the cap was tightened up.
or i cleaned the engine when cold and left to air dry. so maybe something got wet, & sent a signal to the service light to go on. (service engine soon).
thanks

Dissconnect the neg battery cable for like 5 min to reset the code, but just to be safe get it scanned at advance auto to see what the code is.

thanks for the info.
i have had many other cars, and there is a way different way to reset the service light.
caddys go though the a/c by holding in buttons to run a dyonogistic and reset, etc.
toyota's use the odometer and turning the key switch on etc
it's hard to belive that if the service soon light comes on
maybe due to may different reasons maybe it could be a
3000 miles  oil change.
the dealer resets it by disconnecting the battery cable.
but again thanks for the info.

I think the dealer probably uses a Scan tool to reset the warning light.  The previous response probably assumed that you did not have the scan tool.  The tool plugs in near the gas pedal, it will read what code the computer has that is causing it to illuminate the service engine soon light, and it will also clear the code which will cause the computer to turn off the light.

The battery info is for the user who does not want to pay the dealership $90 diagnostic charge to plug in the scan tool.

thanks. most vehicles have a way for a simple reset.
i understand now, that this vehicle doesn't have a reset system.
that is very sad. especailly for what they cost.
again thankyou for the info,
