I've got a loose wire, it connects on the firewall just to the right of the ID plate. It's black with a yellow stripe. I know it's a ground for 'something' but can't figure out where it was connected. It's about 6-8 inches long. I thought I'd investigate further b4 replacing alternator, HOPING it might be the problem. Thanks.

Without going out and looking at my 1993 TR Magna V6 I think you are referring to the base timing connection. There is a wire there on the firewall that comes to a dead end. When setting the base ignition timing it is grounded. Best to read the correct procedure before trying it though as it works on the ecu. Rob
