2000 gt heater core

Doddly5687 -> 2000 gt heater core (1/4/2008 10:36:32 PM)

I recently purchased a 2000 gt and the heating in the car hasn't worked at all. Well it works, it blows air just fine, but it's not cold or hot it's just air. Some assholes at a dealership said it's clogged and wanted to charge me 800 bucks for a new one. I did a little research and from what I found heater cores don't go bad for awhile and I was wondering if I could just get to the heater core and unclog it or do something to fix the heat. I live in cleveland and it sucks bad driving without heat

Man i could swear i already answered this.

Did you check teh thermostat?
Throw in a pot of boiling water, if it opens then it's fine if not, you'll need a new one.
It's possible that you don't drive your car enough for it to overheat especially since you're in a cold area.

Sorry if you've had this question before. I tried finding a similar thread but I'm new to the site. Anyways thanks for the advice and you say that it might be I don't drive it enough for it to warm up? How would I fix that just drive it more lol I mean I drive it everyday just haven't been on any drives longer than like an hour

I may be alittle late to help you since I just joined today.  My wife's car was doing the same thing.  Check to T-stat as stated.  I replaced it since the car has 122000 on it.  I flushed the system.  Come to find out, the car had air in the system.  The coolant resovoir hose had come of and the radiator was sucking air out of the tank.  Never had this happen before on any car I owned.  Pearl02.
