This thread is to describe to alot of people which method of upgrading the suspension will be best for you. Now when i talk about suspension i of course am only talking about the struts and springs which this will be about. What you should realize is there are a few different directions you can take to building the suspension. The two main ones are either a strut/spring combo or all out adjustable coilovers. Here is an in depth discussion on the two and the pricing for each: Strut/Spring Combo (cost between $325 - $870) - Struts: There are two types of struts in which you could choose. 1) non-adjustable strut which are of course the cheaper option. These struts have no adjustment to the stiffness or ride quality, however they are an upgrade to the stock suspension and are necessary if you plan on having lowering springs as they will allow you to lower your ride without sacrificing ride quality. The brands with average prices and part #'s are as follows: 1g AWD Front Rear Cost KYB GR2 ----- 235032 --- 341114 --- $111(f) $116(r) 1g FWD Front Rear Cost KYB GR2 ----- 235032 --- 341114 --- $111(f) $116(r) 2g AWD Front Rear Cost KYB GR2 ----- 341163 --- 341164 --- $111(f) $124(r) Tokico Blue -- HU3532 --- HU3533 --- $130(f) $130(r) 2g FWD Front Rear Cost KYB GR2 ----- 341163 --- 341165 --- $120(f) $120(r) Tokico Blue -- HU3532 --- HU3534 --- $138(f) $138(r) KONI Red ---- 8040-1254 -8040-1255 $240(f) $240(r) *note that the FWD are the same regardless of turbo or non-turbo (4g63 or 420a) 2) Adjustable struts are the another option in which you can adjust the ammount of stiffness within the struts generally with either 4 or 5 different settings. This will allow you to get the ride that best suits your needs. These will also increase your handling and stability with each different setting. The brands with average prices and part #'s are as follows: 1g AWD Front Rear Cost KYB AGX ----- 734005 --- 741014 --- $320(f) $210(r) 1g FWD Front Rear Cost KYB AGX ----- 734005 --- 741013 --- $320(f) $210(r) 2g AWD Front Rear Cost KYB AGX ----- 741042 --- 741020 --- $250(f) $250(r) Tokico Illu --- BU3532 --- BU3533 --- $230(f) $230(r) 2g FWD Front Rear Cost KYB AGX ----- 741042 --- 741019 --- $250(f) $250(r) Tokico Illu --- BU3532 --- BU3534 --- $230(f) $230(r) KONI Yellow - 8041-1207 -8041-1208 $298(f) $298(r) *note that the FWD are the same regardless of turbo or non-turbo (4g63 or 420a) - Springs Lowering springs is the cheapest and easiest way to lower your car and maintain a decent ride quality. Most of the time you will find that springs will lower your car between 1.2"-1.5" This may not seem like alot but you will definetly see a difference in the look and feel. Here is a list of the common lowering springs: 1g AWD Part Drop Cost Megan ------- MR-LS-ME89 -- 2.0" ---- $110 Tien STech -- SKR80-AUB00 -- 1.5" ---- $195 H&R --------- 52961 --------- 1.5" ---- $235 Eibach SL ---- 4.1060 -------- 1.2" ---- $270 Eibach Pro --- 6011.140 ------ 1.0" ---- $275 1g FWD Part Drop Cost Megan ------- MR-LS-ME89 -- 2.0" ---- $110 Goldline ------ GL0700 ------- 2.0" ---- $230 H&R --------- 52960 --------- 1.5" ---- $235 Eibach SL ---- 4.1160 -------- 1.2" ---- $270 Eibach Pro --- 6010.140 ------ 1.0" ---- $275 2g AWD Part Cost Megan ------- MR-LS-9599 --- 2.0" ---- $100 Tien STech -- SKR80-AUB00 -- 1.3" ---- $150 H&R Sport --- 52963 --------- 1.5" ---- $235 H&R OE SP -- Eibach SL ---- 4.1560 -------- 1.6" ---- $250 Eibach Pro --- 6015.140 ------ 1.2" ---- $270 2g FWD Part Cost Megan ------- MR-LS-9599 --- 2.0" ---- $100 Tien STech -- SKR56-AUB00 -- 1.3" ---- $150 Tien HTech -- SKR56-BUB00 -- 1.0" ---- $165 Goldline ------ GL0701 ------- 2.0" ---- $230 H&R Sport --- 52962 --------- 1.5" ---- $235 H&R OE SP -- 52962-55 ------ 1.0" ---- $250 Eibach SL ---- 4.1460 -------- 1.6" ---- $250 Eibach Pro --- 6014.140 ------ 1.2" ---- $270 Coilovers (cost between $325 - $870) Coilovers are a totally different system. They will come with both the springs and the struts together along with the adustment in them. (I must stress that i am not talking about the inserts that you can buy from ebay. I advise not to buy the inserts. Most of them will hinder ride quality and hurt the suspension system.) Another thing to remember with coilovers is if you plan to lower your car more than 1.5-2" then you will be needing a camber adjustment kit to account for the negative camber created by lowering the car. Here are a few coilovers: 1g AWD Part Cost Megan ---------- MR-CDK-ME89 ---- $1050 Tein SS --------- DSR80-2USS1 ---- $1270 JIC Race -------- D27AFLTA2 ------ $1900 1g FWD Part Cost Megan ---------- MR-CDK-ME89 ---- $1050 Tein SS --------- DSR80-2USS1 ---- $1270 JIC Race -------- D22AFLTA2 ------ $1900 2g FWD Part Cost <
